See the latest update from Emory’s Campus Services about the improvements to the Candler Field path. Also note that a ramp will be installed where the path meets Old Briarcliff Road. This is a direct result of your comments received through Bike Emory. Thank you for raising this issue to our attention!

From Campus Services:

Path Lighting

Installation of path lighting will begin next week alongside the Candler Field path segment.

This work includes five new light poles and fixtures which will be installed between the path and the creek, two new light poles and fixtures will be installed at the north side of the path near Old Briarcliff Road, and five light fixtures will be strapped to the existing field lighting poles and will provide nighttime lighting.

The work should wrap up by 11/25.

The path will remain open during construction, however users will be detoured off into the grass in five areas (for a day) while electrical conduit is placed under the path.

Bike Ramp

A ramp will be cut into the existing curb and sidewalk at Old Briarcliff Road near the Candler Field path late next. This will allow bikers to access the path without jumping the curb.

Miscellaneous Site Work

Some minor grading work will occur next to the path and near the dugout, this will address erosion issues.

Placement of gravel near the equipment entrance will take place next week.

SIDEWALK AND PEDESTRIAN CANOPY AT CSX TRESTLE

The pedestrian canopy is nearing completion.

Metal roof installation is underway.

Fencing and lighting installation to occur in two weeks.

Site Work

An old power pole will be removed tomorrow or Friday near the new pedestrian canopy.

Sidewalk pour and place shall occur next week.

After sidewalk completion, final grading and landscaping will take place.

Sidewalk striping to occur in two weeks.

The path and CSX areas will see much activity over the next two weeks, however the project is nearing final completion with exception to some ongoing storm water issues.

Five new light poles and fixtures will be installed between the path and the creek, two new light poles and fixtures will be installed at the north side of the path near Old Briarcliff Road, and five light fixtures will be strapped to the existing field lighting poles. This work should wrap up by the third week in October.

• The path will remain open during construction but a small detour off the path will be necessary during construction of the trench and grate.

Sidewalk & Pedestrian Canopy at CSX Trestle
