News: Bike To Campus Day Numbers

341 Atlanta-area cyclists took an online pledge to Bike to Work during the week of May 10-15 as part of National Bike to Work Week. A hundred-plus cyclists stopped by one of seven “Energizer Stations,” where the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition and its partners served up treats and prizes to encourage people to bike to work, and a little under a hundred cyclists rode in “Bike Trains” (a cross between a carpool and an actual train) to their destinations.
- 341 cyclists registered for Bike to Work Week online at www.biketoworkatl.org
- Participants came from 33 metro Atlanta cities and 144 companies.
- The average round trip commute was 11.3 miles.
- The average number of days biked was 3.5.
- All participants aggregated biked 12,127 miles.
- 35 first-time bike commuters took part.
- 38 cyclists combined their bike trip with transit.
- 92 participants normally drive to work alone.
- Over 100 riders participated in the Emory/CDC event.
Partners included the Downtown Transportation Management Association (DTMA), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Bike Emory, Clifton Corridor Transportation Management Association (CCTMA), Midtown Transportation Solutions, Perimeter Transportation Coalition, Atlantic Station Access + Mobility Program (ASAP+), Clean Air Campaign, BikeMS, local bike shops, bike clubs and advocacy groups, and the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS).
