News: DeKalb County Seeks Public Comment on Bike Lanes For Haygood Rd TONIGHT!
The DeKalb County Public Works Department is holding an open house tonight regarding the proposed Haygood Drive improvements.
As a part of this project Bicycle lanes would be constructed along Haygood Drive. This is a great opportunity for the cycling community to let Dekalb County know there is community support for bicycle road infrastructure improvements in the Emory/Clifton area.
The open house will last from 6 - 8 pm at Druid Hills High School and is a come and go event. If your time is limited you can show up, fill out a comment card and depart. This meeting is open to the general public and anyone is permitted to comment. Bike Emory urges anyone who can to please attend and make your voice heard. Please share this announcement with others who may be interested in attending.
See below for Dekalb County’s official statement on tonight’s open house:
- The project consists of the reconstruction of Haygood Drive between Ridgewood Drive and North Decatur Road. The intersection of Haygood Drive and North Decatur Road would be modified to increase sight distance and pedestrian safety. As a part of this project Bicycle lanes would be constructed along Haygood Drive, and traffic operations would be improved through construction of a dedicated southbound right turn lane.
- The relocation of Haygood Drive would also create an opportunity for increased green space in front of Druid Hills High School, and would increase storage area for school buses. The project, in conjunction with an adjacent future project to replace the Clifton Road bridge over CSX Railroad, would also provide an alternative route to access proposed Emory Healthcare facilities and would relieve traffic volume on Clifton Road.
