News: Volunteers Needed! Bike Count Fall 2008

In order to better track the Atlanta area’s progress in making it safer and easier to ride a bike, the Atlanta Bike Campaign launched an ongoing data collection effort to count bicycle traffic. In the past, most traffic counts in the region have counted bicyclists as pedestrians, a fact that has done little to encourage investment in bicycle facilities such as bike lanes. You can help us remedy this situation by volunteering to help with our bicycle counts!

Volunteers can sign up for one or more 2-hour time slots on a weekday or Saturday. Volunteers are asked to enter their data into an online spreadsheet within 3 days of taking the counts. ABC will release count data will be released to the media.

There will be a training, a makeup training, and three days of counts.
Here’s the schedule: • Wed 9/24 Training • Mon 9/29 Makeup training • Tues 9/30 First day of counts • Thurs 10/2 Second day of counts • Sat 10/4 Last day of counts

If you would like to volunteer for a shift please visit the BIKE COUNT page on the ABC website.
